3) Order of Rainbow Colours

What you need

  • Coloured sand
  • Funnel
  • Spoon
  • Bowl*

Step by Step

1. Pour the first colour of the rainbow into the bowl

2. Open the bottle and place the funnel on the opening of the bottle.

3. Scoop a spoonful of sand and pour it through the funnel into the bottle carefully.

4. Gently shake the bottle sideways to even out each layer and create wave designs depending on your preference. 

5. After you have finished the first packet, repeat steps 1 to 4 for the second packet and so on.

6. Tighten the cork after you have finished all the packets.

7. Name the colours of the rainbow as you point to each layer.

Tips For Older Children

  • Challenge yourself to create different wave patterns.
  • You can use the thinner end of the spoon to even out the ends of each layer.

    Game Play

    Objective: 

    The fairies have stolen the colours of the rainbow and hidden it around your playing area! Find all 7 Colour Cards (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) and arrange them in the correct order of the rainbow to win! 

    Game Set-Up: 

    1. Choose a playing area! (e.g. your living room or bed room) 

    2. Hide the colour cards around the room. 

    How to Play (2-4 Players): 

    1. Go around the playing area to look for the colour cards that you need to rebuild your rainbow. 

    2. When you find a colour card, bring it to the middle of the room and start building your rainbow! You can only bring one colour card to the building area at one time. 

    3. If the colour card you found is a repeated colour, you have to put it back where you found it. 

    4. The first person that collects all 7 colour cards and builds their rainbow in the correct order wins! 

    Game Play for the Little Ones: 

    • Spread out the Colour Cards on the table. Have the child pick the colours and build his perfect rainbow! 
    • If required, arrange a set of colour cards in the correct order in front of your child to use as a reference.
